Season’s greetings everyone! Sorry for the brief hiatus I took between newsletters; I promise I’ll try to at least send out two per month! The past weeks have been really crazy, with a ton of exciting new restaurant discoveries.
So without further ado, I hope you enjoy today’s newsletter. As always, there’s a banger film recommendation, an opportunity to save 10% on your Secret Tab subscription included as well.

A Tabanca - Petiscos Indianos
If you follow my Instagram you probably saw my review for A Tabanca, a new hole-in-the-wall run by Keeana and Aly, a lovely couple from India. A Tabanca brings comfort food to its quaint location, with some surprising dishes you won’t find at any other Indian restaurant in Lisbon. I absolutely adore this place and am sure you will, too!
I reached out to Keeana and Aly and they were happy to provide a 20% discount to any of my readers who are keen to discover the magic of their restaurant themselves. Simply flash the voucher above to cash in on the promo! It’s valid from the 22nd to the 31st of December, so don’t let it go to waste.
My Favorite Discovery of Last Week!
Since some of you probably don’t watch every single video I upload and would like more specific guided recommendations, I want to use this newsletter to spotlight my favorite recent discoveries.
Since the promo above is for an Indian restaurant, I figured I should keep this week’s theme going and spotlight Oven Lisboa, a majestic upscale restaurant with a formidable menu of Indian and Nepalese dishes. Chef Hari Chapagain, formerly a chef at Olivier Da Costa’s Yakuza, really knows how to cook up a mean tandoori chicken, and his various curries all have a creative twist that makes his restaurant more than another “takeaway Indian”. It’s right up there with A Tabanca as one of my all-time favorite recent discoveries.
ImmigrantFilm’s movie of the week:
Since I’m a heavyweight cinephile, here’s my favorite film I watched last week.
Todd Haynes’ latest Cannes darling, May December, is a deliciously toxic melodrama about an actress (Natalie Portman) who shadows a woman (Julianne Moore) in preparation to play her in a biopic. The film covers subjects of sexual trauma, emotional manipulation, and the concept of “performance”. Portman, Moore, and Charles Melton deliver best-of-the-year performances under Haynes’ assured direction, and frankly I think this is Haynes best film to date (outshining the likes of Carol, Safe, and Far From Heaven). If you’re a Pedro Almodóvar fan, run to see this movie; the soap-operatic similarities are striking! It’s currently playing in the gorgeous Cinema Nimes, a delightful arthouse cinema in Saldanha; I highly recommend seeing it on the big screen before it’s relegated to streaming services.

Looking for free alcohol before and after meals?
I recently started using Secret Tab (iPhone / Android) to cash in on two free drinks before going to my dinner rezys. I’ve found the app to be super convenient, and I like that it just picks my destination for me so I don’t always end up at the same bar. It’s also a cool social tool since it attracts a crowd of users to one joint every night!
