I just got settled in Bucharest, Romania. I’ll be here for a month visiting family, but that doesn’t mean I won’t still be spotlighting some Portuguese gems!

Vegan Heaven - O GAMBUZINO
If you keep up with my Instagram, you’ve probably noticed my frequent Instagram stories about O Gambuzino’s dessert special. If you don’t know, here’s the rub: Use the referral code “FOODIE” when making a reservation to ensure a free dessert when you visit.
O Gambuzino is run by a lovely couple, Vasco and Monica, and cooks up the best vegan food I’ve had in Lisbon. If you’re one of those people who is skeptical about vegan cuisine (I get it, I used to be like you), give O Gambuzino a try; it’s outstanding! This could easily be an upscale restaurant like BouBou’s, but the fact that its accessible and not overpriced makes it absolutely worth a visit.
The offer lasts until the end of February, so get on it!
My Favorite Discovery of Last Week!
I met my friend Amish while reviewing Shree Ram, a local Gujrat restaurant situated in Saldanha. He recognized me from Instagram and invited me to join him to Kerala, his favorite South Indian establishment in town. I had eaten my fair share of Indian food, but let me tell you, Amish wasn’t kidding.
Kerala is Dosa heaven, these are some of the most flavorful dosas I’ve had in my whole life. The spice-level is just right. In fact, allow me to go on a quick tangent: There’s a big difference between “spicy Indian food” and “well-spiced Indian food”. Many folks think that good Indian food means your tongue is on fire, but if you’ve ever been to India you’ll know that it’s all about an elegant fusion of pungent flavors, not heat.
ImmigrantFilm’s movie of the week:
Since I’m a heavyweight cinephile, here’s my favorite film I watched last week.
Nicolas Cage pumps out a lot of movies every year, six in 2023 to be exact, and every now and then the Oscar-winning-actor-turned-pay-for-hire-has-been comes full circle and delivers a performance so enchanting that it’s worth the treacherous slog through an otherwise bargain-bin filmography. Dream Scenario is that movie. Directed by Norwegian indie-darling Kristofer Borgli, who had previously made the tremendous films Sick of Myself and Drib, Cage finds the role of a lifetime in this story of internet fame and cancel culture. Maybe the most topical film of 2023.
